Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and with its 502.000 inhabitants also the largest city. Copenhagen is located on the eastern shore of the island Zealand. In the middle of the city you can find the national government, parliament and monarchy. The city is famous for its tolerance, its red-light district and the fascinating 'free city' of Christiania, a community of drop-outs from society.
Copenhagen offers a wide range of historical sights and cultural events. The medieval streets and canals were once and are still today the walkways of the oldest royal families and are an inspiration for generations of artists.
In the harbour you can find the Little Mermaid which is the symbol of Copenhagen.
