The Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesrepublik Deutschland) is located in the heart of Europe between the North Sea and Baltic Sea in the north, and the Alps in the south. Its capital is Berlin. The main language is German (Deutsch). Today it is one of the world's leading industrial nations. Since its reunification in 1990, Germany has been a democratic federal parliamentary nation of 16 federal states. Its highest point is the mountain "Zugspitze" (2,962 meters) and it is traversed by some major rivers like the Rhine, Danube and Elbe. German is the second most used language on the Internet. English and French are taught at schools in Germany.

After World War II the German social market economy helped to rebuild. Germany is known as "the land of poets and thinkers" with such famous authors as Goethe and Schiller, Heinrich Heine or Thomas Mann. Famous philosophers are Kant, Hegel, Marx and Engels or Friedrich Nietzsche. Some famous classical composers from Germany are Bach, Beethoven and Wagner. Numerous well-known artists worked in Germany over the past 1500 centuries like Albrecht Dürer or Franz Marc.

Several UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the cathedral of Cologne or the Museum Island in Berlin are located in Germany.Also a lot of famous scientists like Albert Einstein, inventors and engineers like Daimler and Diesel and mathematicians like Gauss were born in Germany. It is also well-known for its festivals like the famous Oktoberfest in Munich - the world's largest folk festival.
